What is Attachment Hypnotherapy?
Unhealed attachment wounds can ripple into all areas of life. Romantic relationships can become such a rollercoaster of anxiousness that love feels so painful you might wonder if it is possible for you.
Fearing rejection, you might cling to your partner or panic that they will lose interest as soon as they leave the house. Or you might find yourself repeating patterns of avoidance, never quite feeling safe enough to let someone get close to you out of fear of getting hurt.
These patterns can push away the people you desire connection with, creating the very situations you are trying to avoid. But these are not things you are doing by choice; they are “protective” strategies formed in childhood due to unmet emotional needs.
This is where attachment hypnotherapy can help. Using inner child hypnosis techniques, you can replace these subconscious survival strategies with an ability to self-soothe and regulate difficult emotions. Attachment hypnotherapy can help build your sense of worth and self-esteem, updating core beliefs so you know that whatever happens you can cope.
Signs You May Have Attachment Wounds
Attachment wounds can show up in many different ways, usually in relationships in your personal or professional life. You might experience symptoms in all kinds of relationships, not just romantic ones. At the core of all attachment wounds is a deep fear of being hurt, rejected, unloved or unlovable. But it is possible to heal these unmet needs with the right treatment and support.
Some symptoms of attachment wounds can include:
- Overwhelming fear of being abandoned or rejected
- Difficulty trusting those close to you
- Becoming overly dependent on partners or friends
- Anxiety when loved ones seem distant
- Struggling with self-worth or feeling unlovable
- Trouble setting boundaries or saying no
- Pulling away before others can leave you
- Perfectionism driven by fear of not being enough
- People-pleasing to avoid disapproval
- Feeling deeply defective or undeserving of love
What Causes Attachment Wounds?
Attachment wounds come from attachment injuries in childhood. An attachment injury is a painful emotional experience that left you feeling rejected, abandoned (including emotionally abandoned), unwanted, uncared for or a burden.
The impact of attachment injuries can have on you in later depends on their severity, frequency and if there was enough healthy repair.
But it isn’t just obvious abuse that can lead to attachment injuries. Even unintentional forms of rejection, such as a caregiver overwhelmed by their own stresses, can imprint deep feelings of being unimportant or unsafe.
One of the great things about attachment hypnotherapy, is that you don’t even need to remember specific memories. Together, we can locate the child parts of you that carry certain emotions and beliefs that get triggered and help you tend to their needs now.
This therapeutic process helps retrain your nervous system to respond to triggers in a different way. By teaching your inner child parts that you have the tools to help them, you’ll learn to self-regulate. This helps you learn to soothe your emotional system in ways that you missed out on in childhood.
Some common types attachment injuries include:
- Emotional neglect: When a child’s feelings, thoughts, or presence are routinely ignored or minimised.
- Physical absence or loss: Separation from a caregiver due to death, divorce, imprisonment or long hospital stays.
- Inconsistent caregiving: Caregivers who are unpredictable in their affection or responses, creating insecurity.
- Parental mental illness or addiction: Environments where caregivers are emotionally unavailable or unreliable.
- Trauma or abuse: Experiences of harm or fear in the caregiving environment.
- Overprotection or enmeshment: When boundaries are blurred, and the child feels responsible for the caregiver’s feelings.

Attachment Hypnotherapy FAQ
What are attachment issues?
Attachment issues refer to feelings of insecurity, resistance or discomfort in relationships. They are formed in childhood and are related to the type of connections and communication you received from parents or carers. This can affect how safe and secure you feel in your adult relationships, often referred to as your attachment style.
Attachment styles are broken down into 4 main categories:
- Securely attached
- Anxious attached
- Avoidant attachment
- Disorganised
You can take my attachment style quiz to find out more: https://rclifford-cognitivehypnotherapy.com/attachment-style-quiz/
How can attachment hypnotherapy help?
Attachment hypnotherapy can help to address the root causes of attachment issues, by helping you find ways to meet your own emotional needs and feel more secure in yourself. Using inner child hypnotherapy, I help clients to overcome past emotional injuries, heal self-esteem issues and learn to reparent themselves.
This helps to create a sense of internal safety, which can regulate your nervous system and develop subconscious beliefs that you are worthy and you will be okay no matter what happens in your relationships.
How many hypnotherapy sessions will I need to heal my attachment issues?
The number of sessions you’ll need can vary from person to person. People with mild attachment issues often find that 3-6 sessions is enough to help them feel more secure or at ease in relationships.
Whereas, If you have a lot of deep attachment trauma or a history of abuse, you might benefit from longer term treatment which can be anything from 10-12 sessions to several months or even years in extreme cases.
We’ll discuss you needs and work out a plan that suits you in our initial consultation.
What does attachment hypnotherapy cost?
My single sessions cost £135 per hour and I also offer a range of packages at discounted rates. For longer term therapy I offer monthly rolling packages, starting from £255 per month for fortnightly sessions. You can find all of my fees and booking options on my Booking and Fees page.
